We went from the rainy side of the Big Island to the rainy side of Maui. On this side of Maui on the slopes of Haleakala, annual rainfall ranges from 120 to 400 inches. The Hana Highway was built in 1927 using convict labor. It winds for about 35 miles to Hana over 54 bridges, most of them having only one lane.
